DJ Sean Anthony & Martin D

Sean began his love affair with vinyl and its grooves aged just fourteen and debuted on radio two years later. The constant barrage of music styles from Electro and Jazz funk through to the acid and garage era echoed through his bedroom wall from his brothers adjacent room ensuring a well grounded knowledge of beats and inevitable destiny to play the groove.

Sean's passion for playing music has spanned an eventful eighteen year period which , amongst other things, has seen him as a founder member of Risk Fm one of London’s most successful underground stations and co founder of Flava Fm one of London over the years and has also enjoyed overseas appearances year in year out. Sean Anthony made the decision three years ago to put house music on the back burner and return to the roots of Dance, playing grooves to touch the heart. Soul, Funk and Rare Groove - since then he hasn’t looked back.

Don’t get me wrong I still love house and you will often catch me spinning a few towards the end of a set, but soul is where my soul lay now”

Growing up in East London, Martin’s musical education was influenced by the sounds being brought home by his older brother, “I was listening to music that my brother would bring back from Soho –early the early hip hop of Afrika Bambatta, rare groove from Leroy Burgess and everything in-between”. Coupled with an existing love of traditional soul music, this early education formed the musical philosophy that still exists to this day. “For me it’s not about genres or labels it’s about soul – if a track has got it then I’ll play it, and by soul I mean a feeling not a sound.”

Having built up an extensive musical collection that takes in house, nu-jazz, funk soul, disco and reggae, Martin was approached to play for Muak whilst at a friend’s birthday party. “I’d known Zaki for years and was glad to be asked to come along and bring something different to the table and hopefully turn people on to other things”.

Free Form Collectives musical policy is that there isn’t one and you’ll be just as likely to hear the latest soulful, deep house as you will a rare funk 45. As Martin comments, “As long as it gets a reaction and makes you move that will do for us.”
